Frequently Asked Questions

Q Some documents on this page require that you have the Acrobat Reader installed on your computer in order to read them.  What is "Acrobat Reader" and where do I get it.
A Acrobat reader is free to download and use.  Get a current version of Acrobat Reader.
Q. Why should I join the VFW?
A. We are the veterans' advocate and have helped make today's veterans' benefits a reality. Your support helps us continue that path.  Membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars entitles you to a free $1,000/$1,500 personal accident protection policy; personal assistance securing government benefits and entitlements for veterans; and consumer discounts on vision, dental and chiropractic care and prescriptions.  Membership also enables you to join the VFW Credit Union.
Q Am I eligible to join the VFW?
A. Checking eligibility is easy. Use our eligibility listing, which lists campaign periods and authorized service medals, to determine eligibility for membership.  If an applicant claims entitlement to a medal not shown on the individual's separation papers, that person may request verification and correction of records by submitting a Standard Form 180, (Request Pertaining to Military Records). Form 180 also may be used to replace lost separation documents
Q. What if I am not eligible to join the VFW? Are there other organizations that meet at the C. Robert Arvin VFW Post that I can join?
A Yes there is. We are forming an associate organization at this time which does not require military service. Get more information on the progress of this organization by checking back on this website.
