National Recognition Awards

The VFW annually recognizes the achievements of "heroes" in the community. The awards are in recognition of the honoree's preeminent abilities, the compassion for their fellow human beings, the knowledge of and performance of their duties, the integrity and honor of the recipient and the service to the public, the state and the nation.

Emergency Medical Technician Gold Medal Award
Recognizes an outstanding individual in the field of emergency service.

Law Enforcement Gold Medal
Recognizes an outstanding law enforcement individual.

The Firefighter Gold Medal Award
Recognizes an outstanding firefighter

Lifesaving Awards
Recognizes individuals who have gone out of their way to save the life of someone.

Youth "Hero" Award
Recognizes the heroic life-saving acts of young people throughout the nation. Selected individual receives a $2,000 U.S. savings bond.

Scout Competition
Recognizes an outstanding Scout. National winner receives a $5,000 scholarship; 2nd place receives $3,000; and 3rd place receives $1,000.

Youth Cadet Awards Honors
Recognizes outstanding cadets in JROTC, ROTC, Naval Sea Cadets and Civil Air Patrol.

National Citation of Recognition
Recognizes the VFW Post that has demonstrated exemplary community involvement.
